 Summer hasn’t gone yet folks!

I suggest (if you haven’t already), planning a visit to a cabin or cottage for however long you are able too. For me personally it’s a very invigorating and detoxifying way to escape the city hustle and bustle for a while. Bonus points if your spot is right on the lake with surrounding ambiance, fresh air and reconnection to nature. Living simpler days, away from stress and truly appreciating living for those moments such as watching the way the sun rises and falls, the birds and the animals enjoying the day and self reflections.

Recently I had the privilege to take a couple of friends down to a family cabin in Whiteshell Provincial Park in Manitoba on the beautiful Betula Lake. We spent our days bathing in the sun, taking afternoon naps, cooking beautiful feasts, going for hikes, picking berries, canoeing on the lake and exploring the other shores, debating on swimming even though we seen two humungous leeches just waiting to suck our blood, purchasing ice cream and other goodies from the local corner shop, playing mini golf and other random bits of creativity to keep our minds busy. On the way home we were also able to check out the petroforms which are stone placements and ceremonial grounds once used by the Indigenous communities long ago and was a meeting place for them. It is still used to this day for indigenous ceremony and is open to the publics viewing, although we too sure about that idea since the public has used it to their advantage and has unfortunately disrespected a lot of the grounds by moving the stones and toying around with the sacred items in the area.

Some of the things we wished to do was to explore more of the area such as nearby beaches or parks. We also really wanted to get in the water and try paddle boarding and wake boarding and I would have loved to have more bonfires and even camp out in the backyard for a night. However, we were offered an open invitation for any time to come back so we may just do that! It was a wonderful stay and we left feeling very relaxed and renewed and maybe a little burnt by the sun. I recommend visiting whiteshell provincial park if you ever have the chance and I definitely recommend planning a stay at a cute little cabin in the woods or on the shorelines of a beautiful lake.
